(Mission & Vision)

Mission

Our department aims to raise creative and intellectual individuals who are equipped with Chinese grammar, Chinese literature, Chinese culture, Chinese history, who have a critical perspective, who can establish relationship between different fields of activity and disciplines, who can apply its knowledge to different fields, who can think critically and solve problems, who renew themselves constantly in personal and professional fields, who are sensitive to nature and respect differences. It also aims to contribute to the science and art at a universal level, to take ethical values into account, to be sensitive to the problems of the country with a sense of social responsibility, to protect the public interest and to provide services that contribute to the development of the city

Vision

The Department of Chinese Language and Literature was established in 1998 within the Department of Eastern Languages and Literatures, and started to admit students in the 1999-2000 academic year. The academic staff of the Department consists of 7 faculty members, including 1 Chinese Professor, 3 Assistant Professors, 2 Research Assistants with PhD and 1 Chinese lecturer. Our department aims to enable the students to gain academic thinking and analysis skills, and acquire the ability to use Chinese correctly and fluently both in writing and verbally. Courses on China, Chinese literature, Chinese culture and Chinese history are also taught, and it is aimed to provide students with knowledge and interest in research besides language skills. In addition to the curriculum, social activities such as Chinese cultural days, various competitions and excursions are organized every year. With the support of the Middle East Technical University, Okan University and Boğaziçi University Confucius Institutes and the Ankara Embassy of the People's Republic of China in our country, and with the quotas provided to our department, nearly 40 students of our department have the opportunity to study in China with scholarships. Our students are entitled to one-semester and one-year scholarships, as well as Master's Degree and PhD scholarships. In addition to the scholarships given to the students, the faculty members working in our department also conduct research in China with various scholarships. Besides our successful undergraduate program, thanks to the strengthening of our academic staff, a graduate program was opened in the Fall Term of the 2013-2014 Academic Year.
